Rep. Holding's Statement on Dept. of Education Probe into the Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies
WASHINGTON - Rep. George Holding (NC-02) released the following statement regarding the findings of the Department of Education’s investigation into the Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies.
“The Department of Education’s findings paint a deeply troubling picture. The Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies’ use of federal taxpayer funds to promote a biased, ideologically driven agenda is irresponsible and immoral,” said Rep. Holding.
“I appreciate the Department of Education’s diligence in examining this matter and am thankful they are taking the necessary steps to ensure taxpayer dollars are used appropriately and responsibly in the future.”
Rep. Holding sent a letter to Secretary Devos on April 15th requesting a probe into reports of severe anti-Israeli bias and explicit anti-Semitism at a taxpayer-funded conference, “Conflict Over Gaza: People, Politics, and Possibilities,” held between March 22nd-24th at the University of North Carolina (UNC), in conjunction with Duke University (Duke).
Secretary of Education DeVos sent a reply letter to Holding on June 15th informing the Congressman that she had directed the Department of Education’s Office of Postsecondary Education to investigate the Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies.
